Jenny's House | Selimiye | Turkey

A beautiful, friendly guest house, in rural Selimiye, Turkey

Selimiye is 40 minutes drive from the large sea-side town of Marmaris and 2hrs drive from Dalaman airport. Selimiye is a small, rural fishing village on the Loryma peninsula, on the shores of the Aegean Sea. This idyllic traditional Turkish fishing village is set on a wide bay with a mountain backdrop and a ruined fortress on a hill overlooking the azure sea. Fishermen mend their nets on the pebble beach as their colourful boats bob in the clear waters of the bay. The beautiful region is renowned for its rich harvest of almonds and fragrant herbs such as oregano and sage, as well as its famous, delicious pine honey. It is a rare pleasure to be in an area where you are more likely to come across a herd of goats or a farmer riding a donkey, than a coach load of tourists!

Things to do

Selimiye and Jenny's House. Selimiye is the place to come for a really relaxing and de-stressing holiday. There are plenty of seaside restaurants at which to spend the day. All have their own jetty with sunbeds where you can whlie away the days getting a sun tan while reading the latest best seller or reading today's newspaper (all restaurants have wifi so your daily paper can be downloaded to your e-reader). Swimming in the clear waters, enjoying a well cooked wholesome and very healthy lunch, before returning to Jenny's House at 5 for tea and homemade cake (the indulgence of the day!!)and catch up with the other guests to discuss their days adventures!

Wanting something more to do here are a few ideas.

Daily boat trip

Is a must, the boat sets off at 10am (max guests 20). The boat motors round the local area going to bays that are not accessible by road, there are 3 stops before lunch, great for cooling off and perhaps doing a bit of snorkelling. Lunch is served on the boat, normally a bbq of local fish (absolutely delicious) salad and local bread with water melon for pudding. If it's very hot the captain serves this on a rubber ring while you are cooling off in the sea! Trust me more fun than it sounds! The boat has 3 more stops, where tea and cake are normally served. The boat returns at 6ish.

Local Villages

A day trip to the local surrounding villages. Salih arranges this once a week, everyone says what a great day out it is! The loose plan is setting off after breakfast first stop is the Turgut waterfall, followed by a stop at the honey village of Bayir. Then onto the seaside village of Sogut. Sailh's aunts and uncles have a charming small village restaurant by the sea so this is where we stop for a lunch and to catch up on the family chit chat! The last village on the way home is Bozburun (there is a post office here to send your post cards home), arriving back at Jenny's House for tea.

A day trip to the seaside town of Marmaris, the local buses dolmus leave the village every 2 hrs or so and go direct to Marmaris. Lots of shopping and if culture is required there is a castle museum small but very interesting. The dolmus returns from the teahouse direct to Selimiye. For the more adventerous trips to Datca, Dalyan, Mugla, Bodrum (via ferry boat from Datca), Ephesus. All can be arranged..
